Ashland University's men's golf team was one of the best in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference down the 2018-19 season stretch, so it's no surprise that three Eagles earned spots on the 2019 GLIAC All-Conference Teams on Tuesday (April 30) morning.
Senior Austin Kondratick (first team), sophomore Ben Jones (second team) and junior Patrick Steffen (honorable mention) all garnered all-league honors following a month of April in which the Eagles averaged a team score of below 300, and finished runner-up at the GLIAC Championships.
Kondratick becomes just the second Eagle to earn two GLIAC first-team citations since the turn of the century (Jay Overy, 2011-12). He finished second at the GLIAC Championships at 71-71—142, and qualified as an individual for the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional, May 9-11 at Hot Springs Country Club, Arlington Course, in Hot Springs, Ark.
In 25 rounds in 2018-19, Kondratick is averaging a score of 73.04, and has a score of 71 or better in eight of his last nine rounds.
Jones' season average round was 73.74, and he finished in a tie for third at the GLIAC Championships (71-72—143). Jones placed fifth or better in four tournaments in 2018-19, and his low round of the season was a 68 at Wayne State in late September.
Steffen's average round this season was 74.78, and he tied for seventh place at GLIACs (73-75—148). Steffen was a top-10 placer three times in 2018-19, and the low round of his junior campaign was a 69 at the Greyhound Invitational earlier this month.
