Eagle Men Eighth After 36 Holes At GVSU

Ashland University's men's golf team began the 2019-20 season with 36 holes at Grand Valley State's Don Underwood Invitational on Monday (Sept. 9), ending the day in eighth place in the 12-team field.

The Eagles' total of 307-294—601 is 25 shots behind first-place Findlay (288-288—576). Wayne State is second (286-294—580), and the host Lakers are third (295-289—584).

Ashland's pacesetter on Monday was junior Ben Jones, who individually is in a tie for ninth place at 72-72—144. Jones is four strokes behind Findlay's Caleb Westfall (71-69—140).

Grouped together are senior Patrick Steffen, freshman Andrew Kolar and sophomore Luke Tanner. Steffen (79-73—152) and Kolar (78-74—152) are tied for 37th place, while Tanner (78-75—153) is tied for 43rd.

Freshman Caden Gallagher (79-78—157) is tied for 53rd after the first day of play.

Ashland's men will play the final 18 holes of the Don Underwood Invitational on Tuesday (Sept. 10).
