Eagle Men Ninth After First 18 Motor City Holes

Through Day 1 of the Wayne State Motor City Invite on Sunday (Oct. 13) in Detroit, Mich., Ashland University's men's golf team is ninth place in the 16-team field.

The Eagles ended Sunday with a team score of 320, 26 shots behind the first-place and host Warriors (294). Findlay is second at 305, while Davenport is third at 306.

Pacing Ashland's effort in Round 1 was freshman Andrew Kolar, who is tied for ninth individually with a 3-over-par 75. Kolar had three birdies on the day, on holes No. 1, 3 and 17, and is eight shots behind Northwood's Cameron Lippoldt, who is in the lead at 5-under 67.

Junior Ben Jones was next in a tie for 15th place after carding a 77. Jones had four birdies (No 3, 13-14 and 17). Senior Patrick Steffen is tied for 43rd after a round of 82 in which he birdied Nos. 11 and 12.

Freshman Jake Amann is tied for 65th at 86 (birdies on No. 7-8 and 17), while sophomore Luke Tanner is tied for 70th at 88 (birdie on No. 3). Freshman Logan Thomas played as an individual, and is tied for 74th (89, birdie on No. 1).

Ashland's men will play the second and final round of the Motor City Invite on Monday (Oct. 14).
