Ashland University's men's soccer team lost 5-1 at Ohio Dominican on Sunday (Oct. 23) afternoon in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest.
The Eagles are 4-10-1 overall and 2-10-1 in the GLIAC, while the Panthers, in the hunt for the fourth and final spot in the 2016 GLIAC Tournament, are 6-9, 6-7.
After the game, Ashland head coach Oliver Slawson didn't mince words.
"That was unacceptable on all levels," he said. "Compared to the performances we put in seven days ago, that is unacceptable. As disjointed a team performance as we've played all year, and for that to happen in mid-October is a concern, but we can't hide from that."
ODU on the board in the sixth minute on a goal by sophomore forward Ryan Kasprzak, his eighth of the season. The assist went to senior forward Andrew Schwall. Then, in the 32nd and 35th minutes, senior midfielder Brent Wahle scored his second and third goals of 2016, both unassisted.
In the second half, the Panthers moved their lead to 4-0 in the 55th minute on an Eagle own goal. Ashland's tally came in the 66th minute, when sophomore forward Tomas Cordeiro scored his team-high fourth goal of the season on a penalty kick. Cordeiro also paces the Eagles with eight points in 2016.
ODU finished the scoring in the 88th minute when freshman midfielder Noah Kempton scored his first goal of the season on a pass from junior midfielder Austin Blair.
"The only positive from today is we don't have to wait long for an opportunity to put things right on Wednesday," Slawson said. "We'll see who has the desire to move this thing forward then."
