TIFFIN, Ohio – The Ashland University men's soccer team dominated play in the middle 60 minutes of its contest at Tiffin, but the Dragons scored three goals in the final 15 minutes to beat the Eagles, 4-1, on Wednesday (Oct. 4) afternoon.
Ashland (4-6, 0-6 GLIAC) fell behind in the seventh minute after a goal by Matthew Tait, but after the goal, the Eagles began to build up play and were the better side for the remainder of the first half.
Their possession finally led to the equalizer in the 41st minute as freshman Justin Libertowski drove a dangerous ball into the middle and sophomore Jordan Dees drove it into the back of the net, just minutes after coming on as a reserve.
Early in the second half, the Eagles continued to look dangerous going forward as sophomore Justin Kowalski and freshman Yusuke Yasumasu used their pace to set the Eagles up in dangerous spots. AU forced Tiffin keeper Cary Wilson into three saves in the second half, but they were not able to penetrate the back of the net.
Tiffin (5-3-2, 4-1-1 GLIAC) started applying pressure in the final third just a few minutes before scoring the go-ahead goal in the 76th minute as Abdoul Magid Sy finished a cross from Limamu Mohammed.
The Dragons scored two more goals in the next seven minutes to put the game away.
Ashland had a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks and sophomore Thomas Ardron led the team in shots with three. Freshman keeper Dimitrius Karousos made six saves for the Eagles.
The Eagles return to Ferguson Field on Friday (Oct. 6) to take on Purdue Northwest at 7 p.m.
