Eagles, Wildcats Play To 3-3 Stalemate Friday Night

The Ashland University and Northern Michigan men's soccer teams scored four goals in a 13-minute stretch of the second half and the game ended in a 3-3 stalemate after double overtime on Friday (Oct. 20) night at Ferguson Field.

The Eagles (7-7-1, 2-7-1 GLIAC) and Wildcats (4-9-2, 2-8-1 GLIAC) tied at seven points for the final spot in the GLIAC Tournament. The Eagles have two games remaining in the regular season while the Wildcats have just one more opportunity to earn points in the conference standings.

The game was played end-to-end with the Eagles getting on the board first in the 25^th minute. Freshman Yusuke Yasumasu played a ball through the middle to sophomore Thomas Ardron, who took a couple clever touches and blasted a shot past NMU keeper Filippo Torelli. It was Ardron's sixth goal of the season and Yasumasu's first assist.

Just three minutes later, the Wildcats equalized on a goal by Callum Olpin. The game remained tied at 1 going into halftime.

Northern Michigan took its first lead of the game in the 62^nd minute when Kevin Hoof took a flick off a throw-in and touched it into the goal to make it 2-1.

Just three minutes after that, the Eagles had the equalizer as a cross into the box was deflected down by sophomore Jordan Dees and Yasumasu deposited his third goal of the year. Dees picked up his fourth assist.

The Wildcats were able to score just 47 seconds later to take another lead in the 66^th minute on a goal by Sam Popp.

In the 75^th minute, the Eagles had their second game-tying goal as sophomore John Duldner cleaned up after a couple deflections in the box for his first goal of the year. Freshman Justin Libertowski got his fifth assist on the play.

The game continued to go end-to-end through the remainder of regulation and into overtime, but neither team could find the game-winner.

The Wildcats held an 18-14 advantage in shots and freshman goalkeeper Dimitrius Karousos made five saves in the game.

The Eagles will now look to earn a result against visiting No. 18 Saginaw Valley State on Sunday (Oct. 22) at 3 p.m. at Ferguson Field.
