The Ashland University men's soccer team scored an early goal, but a second half equalizer by Saginaw Valley State and an overtime winner sent the Cardinals through with all three points, 2-1, on Wednesday (Oct. 3) afternoon in Saginaw, Mich.

The Eagles (2-7-1, 1-5 GLIAC) got on the board first in the seventh minute. Sophomore Jack Sarkisian played a long ball over the top to sophomore Justin Libertowski, who got behind the SVSU defense. After a touch into the penalty area, Libertowski evaded two retreating Saginaw defenders and coolly slotted his shot inside the near post for his team-leading fifth goal.

Ashland held onto its 1-0 lead going into halftime, but the Cardinals (6-1-3, 4-1-1 GLIAC) scored the equalizer in the 50th minute on a goal by Azaad Liadi.

The 1-1 scoreline held through regulation as the Eagles withstood 24 SVSU shots in regulation time. Liadi would score the winner, however, in the 93rd minute to give the Cardinals three points to move into a tie with Parkside atop the GLIAC standings.

Sophomore goalkeeper Dimitrius Karousos made five saves in goal for Ashland.

The Eagles will play host to Purdue Northwest on Friday (Oct. 5) at 7 p.m. at Ferguson Field before a showdown with reigning GLIAC Tournament champion Davenport on Sunday (Oct. 7, 3 p.m.).
