Karousos Named GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week

Ashland University sophomore goalkeeper Dimitrius Karousos was named the GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week the league office announced on Monday (Oct. 22) afternoon.

It is the first time an AU player has taken home the defensive award since the program's reinstatement in 2016.

Karousos made seven saves in the Eagles' only game last week – a 2-0 clean sheet at GLIAC-leading Parkside. The Metamorfosi, Greece native stopped five shots in the first half as the Eagles took a 1-0 lead into the interval. He added two more in the second half to help Ashland secure three points and clinch its spot in the GLIAC Tournament.

Karousos has started the last nine games and 58 saves. He ranks third in the GLIAC with a 1.06 goals against average and has kept two clean sheets.

The Eagles (5-8-2, 4-6-1 GLIAC) have a chance to play a first-round GLIAC Tournament game at Ferguson Field next week. They will play at Gannon on Tuesday (Oct. 23) in a nonconference game before finishing the regular season at Ferguson Field on Friday (Oct. 26) at 1:30 p.m. against Saginaw Valley State.
