The Ashland University men's soccer team was unfortunate to come away with a 1-0 defeat at Cedarville on Saturday (Sept. 14) night.
The Eagles (0-3) had multiple chances, including two clear opportunities in the final minute to find the equalizer, but came up empty.
The Yellow Jackets (2-0-1) got on the board in the 14th minute as Pedro Alvares recovered a deflected clearance and was able to scoot the ball inside the right post.
Both teams finished with four shots on goal while Cedarville had a 10-9 edge in total shots.
"We've played really well for three games and just not gotten any of the bounces," said Ashland head coach Oliver Slawson. "We felt we did more than enough to take something from the game."
The Eagles had two chances in the last gasp, first when senior Andrew Pearson got a touch on the ball in a scrum in the box, but Cedarville cleared the ball off the line for a corner kick.
After the corner, the ball was served back into the box, but a deflection by sophomore Joseph Renner touched off the back post and was eventually cleared.
"There is still work to be done on being more clinical in the box," Slawson said. "We had our chances. We play at that level and commitment and things will turn for us."
The Eagles will have the opportunity to turn it around on Friday (Sept. 20) at 4 p.m. when they open GLIAC play at Northwood.
