Ashland Men Fall At Home To Rangers, 2-1

Ashland University's men's soccer team took an early lead at home on Sunday (Sept. 29) afternoon vs. Parkside, but suffered a 2-1 loss at the hands of the Rangers at Ferguson Field.

The Eagles are 1-6 overall and 1-3 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, while Parkside moves to 4-3, 3-0, and stays tied atop the GLIAC table.

Ashland took the lead in the 10th minute when junior midfielder Yusuke Yasamasu found the ball in a scramble in front of the Rangers net and headed into the back of it for his first tally of 2019.

Parkside knotted the game at 1 in the 21st minute on Nikola Kesich's goal. The Rangers' second and deciding goal, in the 64th minute, was scored by Jack Mittelsteadt. Both of Parkside's tallies were unassisted.

Ashland had a 15-12 edge in shots, and a narrow 8-6 advantage in corner kicks. The physical contest featured 35 total fouls and five total yellow cards.

Ashland will begin October with a three-game road trip, beginning on Friday (Oct. 4) at 3:30 p.m. at Purdue Northwest.
