Three Ashland University men's soccer players were named to the All-GLIAC teams the league office announced on Thursday (Nov. 14) evening.
Senior midfielder John Duldner and redshirt-sophomore forward Kieran Paterson were selected to the All-GLIAC second team while sophomore center back Joseph Renner was named to the honorable mention list.
Duldner was named to the All-GLIAC second team for the second time in his career after earning the same honor as a junior. He led the Eagles and ranked tied for third in the GLIAC with six assists on the season, despite missing the first five games with an injury.
The Eagles were 0-5 with Duldner out of the lineup, but he entered at halftime of the sixth game against Northern Michigan and promptly dished out an assist on Paterson's goal 80 seconds into the half to break a scoreless tie.
The Eagles were 6-6-1 with Duldner in the lineup. He had a penalty kick goal and an assist in a 4-2 win over Davenport in the regular season finale and assisted on Ashland's goal in its 2-1 defeat to the Panthers in the first round of the GLIAC Tournament.
In his career, he finished with six goals and 11 assists in 65 games as one of five players graduating this year after helping bring back the program for its first season in 2016. He scored an overtime game-winning goal against Daemen in the Eagles' first game after a three-year hiatus.
Paterson scored three goals and added an assist for the Eagles as he served as the target forward in the AU system. He scored in back-to-back games in late September, including the game-winner against Northern Michigan on Sept. 27.
Renner played in all 18 games for the Eagles and scored two goals with an assist. The Eagles posted three straight shutouts in early October and finished the year with six shutouts. He scored in back-to-back games on Oct. 11 and Oct. 18, winning GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors on Oct. 14.
The Eagles, in their fourth season under head coach Oliver Slawson, finished the season with a 6-11-1 mark, including a 6-7-1 record in GLIAC play. Their 18 points in conference play were their most since returning as a program in 2016
