It was announced on Sept. 8 that men's tennis will return to Ashland University in 2018-19, and the first three recruits have already put the pen to paper.

Head coach Lexi Bolesky introduced Ohio natives Stuart Brdicka, Colten Clark and Jordan Phelps as the newest Eagles on Thursday (Nov. 16) afternoon.

"It's an honor to announce our inaugural men's tennis class," Bolesky said. "These three guys are talented tennis players, great students and wonderful young men of positive character.

"They are all good friends from having the opportunity to practice, play and compete with one another growing up."

- Brdicka, brother of AU women's tennis sophomore Brianna Brdicka, is from Oletangy. In 2017, he was an Ohio Tennis Zone All-Ohio and first-team All-Ohio Cardinal Conference honoree. Brdicka qualified for states in doubles as a sophomore and in singles as a senior. He played for a Racquet Club of Columbus Championship team in 2016 and 2017. His 18-under junior tennis team and world tennis team both advanced to nationals. He's currently No. 9 in Ohio's class of 2018, and has been as high as No. 342 nationally.

- Clark is a recruit out of Fairfield Christian Academy. He garnered first-team All-OCC recognition and had a 46-7 record. Clark was a member of a junior team tennis sectional championship and national qualifier seven years in a row. He was part of a third-place finish at world team tennis nationals in 2017. He's No. 11 in Ohio, and has been as high as No. 326 nationally in the class of 2018.

- Phelps is also from Oletangy. He was named second-team all-state in doubles in 2016 after advancing to the district finals. He and his doubles partner won sectionals in 2015, 2016 and 2017. Phelps was instrumental on three junior tennis teams that placed seventh or better at nationals. Among the class of 2018, Phelps is No. 14 in Ohio and has been ranked 307th nationally.

Bolesky brought in four freshmen from four different countries in her second year leading the women's team, and coached the Eagles on their way to a GLIAC Tournament appearance for the first time since 2013. Ashland won five matches in the fall, which is three more than they won in last three fall seasons combined.
