Eagle Men Play At Oberlin, First Matches Since 1995

The Ashland University men's tennis team played in its first matches since the reinstatement of the program on Saturday (Sept. 15) and Sunday (Sept. 16) at the Oberlin College Invitational.

The Eagle men went 2-4 in doubles, and 2-4 in singles, on Day 1 of competition (Sept. 15).

In doubles play, the freshman duo of Jordan Phelps and Colten Clark was unbeaten. In their first match, Phelps and Clark won 9-7. In match 2, they were able to eke out a 9-8 win.

In Saturday's singles play, freshman Stuart Brdicka won his match in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0. Freshman Shivam Patel won his singles match without dropping a single game in either set, cruising to a 6-0, 6-0 victory.

On Sunday, Ashland's men went 2-10 in singles play.

Clark picked up where he left off in doubles play, and won his singles match handedly, 6-1, 6-2. Brdicka was also able to pick up another win on the weekend. The freshman battled in both sets of his Sunday singles match, and walked away with a 7-5, 7-5 win to round out his weekend.

The Eagles will play next at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Midwest Regionals on Sept. 28.
