Ashland Men Lose Close Road Match, 4-3

Ashland University's men's tennis team's four-match win streak came to an end on Sunday (Feb. 24) at Mercyhurst in a tightly-contested match.

The Eagles did not win the doubles point, but were able to take it down to the final match with singles play.

"Today was a hard-fought match that we will use as motivation moving into our future practices and next match," said Ashland head tennis coach Lexi Bolesky.

The lone victor in doubles was the freshman pairing on Stuart Brdicka, and Jordan Phelps, who have been automatic in the spring, winning 7-6.

Ashland won three matches in singles play. In No. 1 singles, junior Priyank Soni went the distance in three sets to earn the win. He dropped a long first set, 7-6, before coming back to win the match 6-7, 6-4, 10-4. In second singles, Brdicka kept up his winning streak, also doing so in three sets, 6-3, 5-7, 10-8. The final win on the day came from Phelps in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.

Ashland's men will play next against Toledo on Sunday (Mar. 3).
