Eagle Men Back In Win Column Vs. USI

Ashland University's men's tennis team got back in the win column on Thursday (March 14) with a dominant win over the University of Southern Indiana.

The Eagles rolled to a 4-1 victory over the Screaming Eagles, winning the doubles point and three singles matches. The victory ended a two-match win streak for USI.

"Today was a big win for us against a very strong team," said freshman Colten Clark. "It was nice to send a message to the region that we can fight with anyone."

In doubles play, AU picked up two of three wins. Freshmen Stuart Brdicka and Jordan Phelps won their match in first doubles, 6-1. Junior Priyank Soni and senior Stanislaw Grzeslo also earned a doubles win, 6-4, in second doubles.

With the 1-0 advantage, Ashland did not let up in singles play.

The Eagles won all singles matches that were finished, and did so in straight sets. In No. 2 singles, Brdicka won with ease, 6-2, 6-4. Clark had a battle in his first set that he won, 7-5. The second set was quick for Clark, a 6-1 win to take the match at No. 3 singles. Grzeslo won his match in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.

Ashland's next match will be on Saturday (March 16) against Tiffin at Lakewood Racket Club.
