Eagles Eke Out Home Win Against Edinboro

Ashland University's men's tennis team won its sixth match of the season over Edinboro on Sunday (March 17).

The Eagles managed to win by just one point over the Fighting Scots, 4-3. After winning two of three doubles matches, Ashland won the top three singles contests to get just enough to win the match overall.

In doubles play, the No. 1 and No. 2 duos continued their dominance. At No. 1, freshman pairing Stuart Brdicka and Jordan Phelps won 6-2. In the No. 2 slot, junior Priyank Soni and senior Stanislaw Grzeslo won 6-4 to clinch the one team point for doubles.

For the third match in a row, the top three singles spots took care of business and won their matches.

No. 1 Soni earned a quick straight-sets victory, 6-1, 6-3. Brdicka also had a wide margin of victory, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 2.

The fourth and clinching point for Ashland came in a three-set match that was won by freshman Colten Clark. Clark won his first set 6-2, but dropped the second by the reverse, 6-2. The match came down to the third set, and Clark was up for the task, winning it 6-4.

Ashland's men will open up Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athetic Conference play in their next match, at home against Purdue Northwest on Saturday (March 23) at 10 a.m.
