Soni Named GLIAC Men’s Player Of The Week

For the second time this season, one of Ashland University's men's tennis players has garnered a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week honor.

Junior Priyank Soni was named the GLIAC's men's tennis Player of the Week on Wednesday (March 19) morning, his first time winning the award.

The Eagles went 2-1 in their final week before GLIAC play, beating Southern Indiana and Edinboro, and Soni was a large part of that. He went 5-0 over the course of the three matches played during the week - 2-0 in singles at the No. 1 spot and 3-0 in doubles. Soni did not drop a set in any of his singles wins. In doubles play with senior Stanislaw Grzeslo, Soni won matches 6-4, 7-6, and 6-4.

That recent success comes as no surprise from Soni. He has not lost a singles match against a Division II opponent since Feb. 2 against Charlie Adams of Hillsdale. That defeat was in the first match of the Eagles' championship season, and the only singles match Soni has lost for the entire year against Division II competition.

Soni and the Eagles will open GLIAC play on Saturday (March 23) at home against Purdue Northwest at 10 a.m.
