Brdicka, Phelps Named Nation’s No. 18 Doubles Team

Ashland University's men's tennis freshman doubles duo of Stuart Brdicka and Jordan Phelps was named the No. 18 doubles team in NCAA Division II by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on Wednesday (March 20).

Brdicka and Phelps are the first Eagle men's players to be ranked since the program's return this year.

The duo has been on a tear in the men's championship season so far, going 8-2 at No. 1 doubles against Division II competition, and helping the Eagles to their 6-6 start so far this season.

On Feb. 25, Brdicka and Phelps toppled Mercyhurst's Cormac McCooey and Unai Amilleta Gonzalez, 7-6, winning the tiebreak 7-4. McCooey and Gonzalez were ranked No. 5 in the nation as a doubles team at that time, and are now sitting at No. 7. One of Brdicka and Phelps' only two losses this spring came to No. 20-ranked William Anth-Forsberg and Charlie Hutchings of Francis Marion.

The Eagles play next on Saturday (March 23) at home against Purdue Northwest at 12:15 p.m. in their first GLIAC match.
