Ashland Men Take Fourth Straight Decision

Ashland University's men's tennis team stretched its win streak to four matches on Saturday (March 30) against Davis & Elkins.

The Eagles didn't miss a beat in the match, winning 7-0. They only lost one set in all matches.

AU swept doubles to start off with a point advantage.

The nationally No. 17-ranked duo, and best all-freshman team, Stuart Brdicka and Jordan Phelps handled their business. They blanked their opponents, 6-0. Junior Priyank Soni and senior Stanislaw Grzeslo won their match 6-3. The No. 3 doubles duo, freshman Tche Kun Teng and sophomore Nathan Sims, also won with ease, a 6-1 result.

The Eagles had continued success in singles play. The only match to go more than two sets was No. 3, as Phelps won his match in a close 7-6 third set, the full score being 6-1, 3-6, 7-6.

The rest of the matches for AU were won in straight sets. Soni had little trouble at No. 1 singles, a 6-2, 6-2 win. Brdicka won his match 6-2, 6-1. Tche was dominant as well, winning 6-2, 6-1. Grzeslo blanked his opponent in Set 1, 6-0, and won the second set 6-3 to clinch the match.

Rounding out the day was Sims, a winner in 6-1, 6-2 straight sets.

The Eagles will get back to conference play on Sunday (March 31), as they travel to Wayne State for an 11 a.m. start time.
