AU Men Drop Tight Match At Grand Valley

Ashland University's men's tennis team lost a close match against Grand Valley on Friday (April 5), 4-3.

The Eagles started off the match with the advantage, as they won two of three doubles matches to earn the first point. However, in singles play, they were only able to win two of six matches.

Doubles pairing, senior Stanislaw Grzeslo and junior Priyank Soni, won their match at No. 2 doubles, 6-4. Also earning a win was the No. 3 doubles team, freshmen Colten Clark and Tche Kun Teng, a 6-3 result.

Freshman Stuart Brdicka and Grzeslo were the winners in singles.

Brdicka won his No. 2 singles match in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4. Grzeslo had to battle in his match, going all the way to a third set. He split the first two long sets, 6-7, 6-4. The decisive third set was won by Grzeslo, 10-4.

The loss moved AU to 2-2 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play, while Grand Valley improved to 4-1 in the conference.

The Eagles will continue their brief road stint in Michigan on Saturday (April 6) at Ferris State.
