Soni Claims Second GLIAC Player Of The Week Award

Priyank Soni's junior season for Ashland University men's tennis got even better on Tuesday (April 16) morning, as he was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week.

Soni has now won the award twice this season, and he's been a constant for the Eagles at No. 1 singles.

It took another 4-0 week for Soni to earn recognition as the GLIAC's best player for the week. He went 2-0 in both doubles and singles, helping the Eagles to split their GLIAC matches during the week, going 1-1 as a team.

In a 7-0 win for AU against Michigan Tech, Soni won his singles match in straight sets, only dropping three games, 6-1, 6-2. In doubles, he also won with partner, senior Stanislaw Grzeslo, a resounding 6-0 win.

The Eagles lost 5-2 to Lake Superior State, but Soni was once again unwavering in his success. He and Grzeslo won with ease in doubles, 6-2. They were the only Ashland pairing to earn a win. Soni also won a tough match in singles, where he dropped the first set and went down to the final game in the second, 3-6, 7-6, 6-4.

Soni and the Eagles have two more matches left of the regular season before they begin play at the 2019 GLIAC Championships on Friday (April 26).
