Eagle Men Win Four Main Brackets At Charger Invitational

Ashland University's men's tennis team built upon its Day 1 success at the Charger Invitational and won several tournament brackets on Saturday (Sept. 14) on Day 2 of competition.

The Eagles won four main brackets in the competition: A doubles, B doubles, A singles, and C singles.

In the A doubles bracket, sophomores Stuart Brdicka and Colten Clark won their bracket, a 4-1 victory before their opponents retired. In the B doubles bracket, sophomore Jordan Phelps and sophomore Tche Kun Teng rolled in their final match, a 6-1 win.

Two more Eagles were crowned champions in singles play.

In the A singles bracket, it was Brdicka who took the double on the day, winning his semifinal match in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. He won a three-set battle in the finals, 6-4, 5-7, 10-7. Phelps won his semifinal contest in the C singles bracket in straight sets, 7-6, 6-4. He played two long sets again in the final, but was able to take the top spot in a two-set win, 6-3, 7-5.

The Eagles will play next in the Oberlin Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 21).
