Softball Opens With Two Losses

The Ashland University softball team lost a pair of games Sunday (Mar. 6) at the Rebel Games in Florida. These were AU's first two games of the season.

The Eagles lost their season opener, 2-1 to Lewis. This two teams played in the NCAA playoffs last spring in Ashland and the Eagles eliminated Lewis from the postseason. This time around the GLVC team, ranked 24th in the country, won, 2-1.

The game was scoreless through six innings. In the top of the seventh, the Flyers got to AU starter and loser Emlyn Knerem (Brunswick, Ohio) for a pair of runs.  Ashland scored once in the bottom of the seventh and had runners stationed at first and third base with two outs when Lewis got the final out of the game.

In Sunday's second game, the Eagles lost to Concordia-St. Paul, 9-1.

The Eagles have an off day Monday. They return to the diamond on Tuesday to play IUP and Mount Olive. IUP is coached by former Ashland assistant coach Bill Graham.
