Hursey Receives GLIAC Commissioner's Award

Ashland University senior softball player Logan Hursey (Zanesville, Ohio/John Glenn) has received one of 12 GLIAC Commissioner's Awards for the Spring 2011 season. The awards were announced by the conference office today.

The awards, sponsored by Meijer, Incorporated, are presented after the fall, winter and spring athletic seasons to six male student-athletes and six female student-athletes that excel in the classroom and on the field of play.

"We are truly proud of these 12 student-athletes representing the conference for the Commissioner's Award," said GLIAC commissioner Dell Robinson.  "They are a fine example of excellence in the classroom and on the field.  The GLIAC greatly appreciates the support of Meijer for their sponsorship of the 2010 Commissioner's Award. The award and continued support of Meijer is evidence of our pursuit of academic excellence."

This is the 10th time an AU student-athlete has received a Commissioner's Award. The program was initiated in 2007.  Hursey is the fourth female student-athlete from Ashland to be honored.

Hursey played first base, designated player and pitcher during her career. She was a four-year starter who helped guide the Eagles to the NCAA Division II playoffs each of the last three years.  In 2011, Hursey hit .366 with 10 homers and 39 RBI.  She was third in the conference in doubles, sixth in homers and slugging percentage, seventh in total bases and 10th in on-base percentage. Hursey is second in career homers and third in career RBI at Ashland.  She is sixth in career victories (41).

Hursey was a second team All-GLIAC performer in 2011.  In 2009 and 2010, she was first team all-conference and in 2010 she was first all-region and was a second team All-America.

An accounting and finance major with a minor in business management, Hursey has a 3.54 grade point average.  She is a member of the GLIAC All-Excellence Academic Team and was honored as a second team all-district Academic All-America.
