Knerem Named First Team All-Region

Ashland University pitcher Emlyn Knerem (Brunswick, Ohio) has been named to the Daktronics All-Midwest Region First Team.  The team is selected by sports information directors in the region.  Knerem will now move on to the national All-America ballot.

This is the second consecutive year Knerem has been named first team all-region. A year ago, Knerem was a Daktronics second team All-America.

Knerem is one of three pitchers on the all-region first team. She is joined by Saginaw Valley State's Jade Fulton and Torie Bunzell of Quincy.

Knerem finished the year 26-9 with a 1.70 ERA. She had 296 strikeouts in 226.2 innings, 13 shutouts and four no-hitters. The junior is second in the country in shutouts, ninth in strikeouts, 12th in victories and 17th in strikeouts per seven innings (9.1).

Knerem is a two-time All-GLIAC first team selection (2010, 2011).  She is third in career wins (66) at Ashland and second in career strikeouts (817). Knerem's career ERA is 1.53, which is the fourth best in school history and for her career, batters are hitting .191 against her.

For the past three seasons Knerem has been the ace of the AU pitching staff. Ashland has made three consecutive trips to the NCAA playoffs. In 2011, the Eagles were 33-19, 21-7 in GLIAC action.
