Knerem Named To Academic All-America Team

            Ashland University pitcher Emlyn Knerem (Brunswick, Ohio) has been named to the Capital One Academic All-America Division II Softball Team. Knerem, who is a senior, was named to the third team.  The team is selected by sports information directors from around the country. The team was announced today (May 23).

            Knerem earned a 3.83 grade point average as a sport management major. She is a member of the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team and is the 2012 Ashland University sport management club major of the year. She was also named the AU Sports Sciences Department senior of the year. Knerem has served as AU's Sport Management Club president and she has been the president and secretary of Ashland's Student-Athlete Advisory Council.  She is a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honors Society and the Alpha Gamma Omega Nu Sports Science Honors Society. 

            Knerem was named the 2012 GLIAC pitcher of the year and she is a four-time, first team All-GLIAC selection.  Knerem was recently named an NFCA third team All-American. That was the second All-America citation of her career. In 2012 Knerem was 29-7 with a 1.60 ERA. That win total is a school, single-season record. Knerem had 289 strikeouts in 231.2 innings and batters hit just .208 against her.  She was sixth in the country in wins, eighth in saves (4), ninth in strikeouts, and 17th in strikeouts per seven innings (8.7).

            During her career Knerem has been a first and second team all-region choice. She completed her career at Ashland as the softball program's career leader in wins (95) and saves (11). She is second in career strikeouts (1,106) and hurled six no-hitters in her career. This season, she led the GLIAC in wins and strikeouts. In 2012 Knerem led Ashland to the NCAA Division II playoffs for the fourth consecutive season. The Eagles finished 42-17, 23-9 in the GLIAC.
