Softball Team Ranked Among Nation's Best Academically

The Ashland University softball team finished 11th in the nation in team grade point average for the 2011-12 season.

AU's team grade point average for last year was 3.413. The national leader was Grand Canyon University with a 3.6 grade point average.

AU was one of three GLIAC teams to be included among the nation's Top 20 academic teams. Findlay is tied for seventh in the nation and Wayne State is 16th.

The Eagles finished 42-17 last season, 23-9 in GLIAC play. AU has advanced to the NCAA Division II playoffs for four consecutive seasons.  Ashland is coached by Sheilah Gulas.

In addition to last year's outstanding grade point average, the softball team boasted one GLIAC Commissioner's Award winner - senior pitcher Emlyn Knerem.  In 2011, pitcher-first baseman Logan Hursey received a Commissioner's Award.
