Sarah Alley (Milford, Ohio) pitched a complete game six-hitter and Jen Moore (Jeromesville, Ohio/Hillsdale) went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI to lead Ashland to a 3-1 win over Northwood Saturday (Mar. 30) in the second game of a GLIAC doubleheader in Midland, Mich. The victory gave the Eagles a split of Saturday's twinbill. The Timberwolves won the lid-lifter, 7-6.

For the weekend, AU won three of four games. On Saturday, the Eagles swept a doubleheader against Lake Superior State at Brookside Park.

The Eagles are 11-12, 5-3 in the GLIAC. Northwood is 14-11 and 4-2.

Alley didn't walk a batter and struck out six. The run she allowed was unearned. That score came in the first inning. AU answered with Moore's two-run homer in the bottom of the first.

Moore's big game came a week after she doubled in the bottom of the seventh inning to drive in the winning run against Ferris State. Outfielder Taylor Menhart (Twinsburg, Ohio) and third baseman Jerrica Young (Loudonville, Ohio) both went 2-for-3. Young drove in AU's third run.

Alley appears to be on the way to establishing herself as the ace of the pitching staff. The sophomore missed all of last season with a foot injury. She's 6-3 this season.

In the first game, AU had a 4-3 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth inning. The Timberwolves erased that deficit by scoring four times in the stanza. Stacey Klonowski had a two-run homer in that rally. Klonowski was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI. Rachel Hammer was 2-for-2.

Amber McDermott (Creston, Ohio/Norwayne) was the loser in game one. She went the distance and allowed seven runs on nine hits.

Maddison Sebald was the winner. She pitched 6.2 innings and allowed six runs on 10 hits with three walks and a strikeout.

Ashland will host Lake Erie on Tuesday (Apr. 2).
