Softball Goes 0-For-2 On Friday

Runs were hard to come by for the AU softball team on Friday (Mar. 7) in Clermont Florida. The Eagles lost to Southern New Hampshire, 6-2 and to St. Anselm, 3-0. The Eagles are 7-4 and will wind up their spring trip on Saturday (Mar. 8).

Southern New Hampshire's Ali Maloof gave the Eagles fits at the plate and in the circle. She tossed a six-hitter to quiet the AU bats and went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI. AU had a 2-1 lead after five innings. Southern New Hampshire scored three runs in the sixth inning and two in the seventh. Maloof is 4-1 and Southern New Hampshire is 9-1.

Kayla Prokopakis homered for AU and Taylor Menhart and Kourtney Yarnall clubbed doubles.

The loss went to Sarah Alley.

AU had three hits against St. Anselm's Tayla Trask (4-0). Two of those hits came from outfielder Carly West. St. Anselm scored all three runs in the fourth inning against starter and loser Amber McDermott. All of those runs were unearned. McDermott allowed two hits in four innings. She walked four and struck out two. Brittany Flanigan pitched the final two innings. St. Anselm is off to a 6-2 start.
