Eagles Sweep Nationally Ranked Cedarville

The AU softball team swept a doubleheader at Cedarville on Saturday, winning 7-3 and 9-2. AU is 10-5.

This was an impressive piece of work for the Eagles. The Yellow Jackets are ranked 24th in the country and own wins this season over Grand Valley State, Saginaw Valley State, Quincy, Lewis and Lock Haven. Cedarville is 12-5.

In Saturday's first game, Sarah Alley and Kayla Prokopakis went 2-for-4. Both players doubled. Outfielder Shelbie Prince was 2-for-3 and drove in two runs.

AU led, 4-0 after three innings and put the game away with three runs in the sixth. Nevertheless, Ashland used four pitchers. Amber McDermott was the starter. The victory went to Zoe Myers, who pitched two innings. She didn't allow a run or a hit. Alley got the final out to record the save.

The second game saw second baseman Cayla Seidler go 4-for-5 with a double, triple, two RBI and two runs scored. Outfielder Taylor Menhart was 2-for-2 and knocked in a run.

The Eagles enjoyed a seven-run third inning. In that inning, the Eagles drove Cedarville starter Cecelia DeBartolo from the circle. She lost for the first time this season. Her record is 4-1.

Alley started and received credit for the win. In four innings, she permitted two runs on three hits. One of the runs was unearned.

The Yellow Jackets had seven hits, but none went for extra bases.
