Cayla Seidler could be likened to a Top 40 radio station on Thursday (Apr. 10) at Lake Erie. The hits just kept on coming.
Seidler went 7-for-9 with eight RBI in two games against the Storm. She led the Eagles to a pair of wins - 7-2 and 11-3 in five innings. This was AU's first GLIAC doubleheader sweep of the season. The second game win was AU's first by the eight-run rule since beating University of the Sciences, 9-0 on Mar. 6 in Florida.
In the first game, Seidler went 3-for-5 with two doubles and a home run. She drove in six runs. In the second game, she was 4-for-4 with two RBI and two doubles. On the year, the senior is hitting .389 with a team-high .622 slugging percentage.
Ashland (17-10/6-4 GLIAC) lashed out 15 hits in the first game. AU led, 3-2 after five innings. In the top of the sixth, Seidler belted a two-run homer, her second of the season, to increase the AU lead to 5-2. She added a two-run double an inning later for a 7-2 AU advantage.
Center fielder Taylor Menhart was 4-for-4 and left fielder Carly West went 3-for-3. Shortstop Jamie Weber was 2-for-3.
The win went to Amber McDermott. She pitched five innings and allowed two runs on seven hits. McKenna Galloway hurled two scoreless innings to gain her first save of the season. McDermott is 5-1.
Elizabeth Karako went 2-for-2 with two RBI for the Storm (4-21/1-13).
AU broke open the second game with a seven-run fourth inning. The Eagles piled up 13 hits. In addition to Seidler's exploits, Menhart was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Sarah Alley was 2-for-2 with two RBI and West rapped a double.
The victory went to Alley (7-4), who pitched 1.1 scoreless innings. She permitted one hit. Galloway pitched 3.2 innings.
The Eagles return to the diamond on Sunday (Apr. 13, noon) when they host Malone at Brookside Park.
