Eagles Win Two More For Best 10-Game Start Since 2003

The warmer weather in Florida would agree with most people coming from Ohio, but it seems very much to the liking of Ashland University's softball team.

At 9-1, the Eagles are off to their best 10-game start since 2003 (9-1) after two wins in Clermont on Friday (March 6) – 12-2 in five innings against Saint Anselm and 11-3 in six innings vs. Assumption.

Ashland's win against St. Anselm saw an offensive explosion of three home runs and two doubles among the Eagles' 11 hits. Senior center fielder Taylor Menhart was 2-for-2 with a homer and three RBIs, senior designated player Jerrica Young was 2-for-3 with a round-tripper and junior third baseman Kayla Prokopakis was 2-for-3 with a homer and three runs scored.

Junior pitcher Brittany Flanigan improved to 3-0 after five innings of three-hit ball. She allowed two runs and a walk while striking out three.

Against Assumption, junior first baseman Jen Moore was 2-for-4 with a triple, home run and four RBIs, Menhart was 3-for-4 with a homer, four RBIs and two runs scored and sophomore left fielder Ally Farrah was 3-for-3 with two runs scored. Young added two RBIs and crossed the plate twice.

Senior pitcher Amber McDermott also is 3-0 after striking out five in four innings. She allowed five hits and two runs. Fellow senior McKenna Galloway earned her second save after allowing three hits and a run and striking out two in two innings.

The Eagles will conclude their annual Florida trip in Clermont on Saturday (March 7) with games against Millersville (9 a.m.) and Quincy (11 a.m.)
