Ashland University's softball team opened the home portion of its 2015 schedule in style on Saturday (March 21), defeating Ohio Dominican in a pair of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference games, 9-6 and 6-5 in eight innings.

The Eagles' winning streak moves to 10 games, and Ashland is 15-1 overall and 2-0 in the GLIAC.

In Saturday's opener, the Eagles scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth to earn the victory. Sophomore second baseman Kalene Freshour (3-for-4, two runs scored), junior first baseman Jen Moore (3-for-4, three RBIs) and junior catcher Bri Buckley (3-for-3, triple, three RBIs, two runs scored) all had three of AU's 14 hits, and senior center fielder Taylor Menhart added two doubles. Senior shortstop Jamie Weber added a single, double and two RBIs.

Senior pitcher Amber McDermott improved to 6-0 after striking out three and scattering 10 hits and two runs in seven innings.

The second game saw the Eagles rally from deficits of 3-2 after three innings, 5-3 after five innings and 5-4 after six innings. Moore's solo home run in the top of the seventh tied the game at 5, then senior catcher Jerrica Young's sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth provided the final margin.

Freshour was 4-for-5 with two RBIs, while Menhart, Moore, junior right fielder Shelbie Prince and sophomore left fielder Ally Farrah each had two of AU's 13 hits.

Junior pitcher Brittany Flanigan went all eight innings and improved to 5-0, striking out seven and allowing five hits, one earned run and five walks.
