AU Softball Loses Twice At Home To Warriors

Ashland University's softball team lost a pair of games at home to Wayne State on Sunday (March 30), 3-2 and 9-6.

The Eagles, ranked 24th in Division II, are 17-3 overall and 2-2 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, while the Warriors are 18-13, 2-0.

In Game 1, Wayne State scored single runs in each of the first three innings and held on late. Ashland junior pitcher Brittany Flanigan allowed eight hits, three runs and three walks while striking out two, and senior center fielder Taylor Menhart and junior shortstop Shelbie Prince each drove in a run.

Game 2 saw the Eagles race out to a 5-0 lead after 2½ innings, but the Warriors scored all nine of their runs in innings No. 3 and 4. Menhart was 2-for-3 with a home run, Prince was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and sophomore left fielder Ally Farrah was 2-for-2 with a triple.

Ashland will be back at home on Monday (March 30) for another GLIAC doubleheader at 3 p.m. against Saginaw Valley State.
