Ashland University's softball team saw its 2015 season come to a close on Saturday (May 10) following a 4-0 loss to the Trevecca Nazarene Trojans in the 2015 NCAA split Midwest Regional tournament in Indianapolis, Ind.
The Eagles conclude their campaign with a 39-10 record, the program's best single-season winning percentage in 17 years. The Midwest Regional championship game will feature the No. 2 seed Indianapolis Greyhounds and No. 7 seed Trevecca Nazarene. It will be played on Sunday (May 10) at noon.
The Eagle offense was stymied all game, as they could only muster three hits off Trojan pitching. The Trojans collected four runs on six hits.
TNU collected two runs in the second inning after a lead-off walk, two hits and an error allowed two runners to come in.
Trevecca Nazarene plated two more runs in the fifth as the leadoff hitter Danielle Tyson singled. That was followed two batters later with a double by Lindsey Stephens to put runners on second and third. Mackenzie Leding then cashed in a two-RBI double to center field to put the Trojans up 4-0.
Eagle right fielder Jenny Raguz led off the sixth inning with a double down the right-field line, but she was left stranded at third base after three consecutive Trojan putouts.
The Eagles graduate five seniors – pitchers McKenna Galloway and Amber McDermott, center fielder Taylor Menhart, catcher Jerrica Young and shortstop Jamie Weber.
"I'm so proud of what this senior class has accomplished," said Ashland head coach Sheilah Gulas. "Everything they have done on and off the field has contributed to what the program is today."
