Eleven Eagles Earn NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete Status

Eleven Ashland University softball players earned 2014-15 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America Scholar-Athlete honors, the NFCA announced on Tuesday (Oct. 6).

In alphabetical order, the Eagles who earned the academic honor were junior pitcher Sarah Alley, junior catcher Bri Buckley, sophomore outfielder Ally Farrah, junior pitcher Brittany Flanigan, sophomore second baseman Kalene Freshour, junior outfielder Erika Garant, senior pitcher Amber McDermott, junior shortstop-outfielder Shelbie Prince, junior third baseman Kayla Prokopakis, sophomore outfielder Jenny Raguz and senior shortstop Jamie Weber.

These honors continue to highlight the AU softball team's success in the classroom in 2014-15. Senior center fielder Taylor Menhart earned third-team Capital One Division II Academic All-America Softball Team honors, seven players (Alley, Farrah, McDermott, Prince, Prokopakis, Raguz and Weber) earned spots on the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference All-Academic Excellence Softball Team and eight players (Buckley, Flanigan, senior pitcher McKenna Galloway, Garant, sophomore catcher Audrey Manahan, Menhart, junior first baseman Jen Moore and senior catcher Jerrica Young) landed on the GLIAC All-Academic Softball Team.

The NFCA announced that 5,493 softball players across seven membership divisions earned All-America Scholar-Athlete laurels in 2014-15.
