Eagles Picked Third In 2016 GLIAC Softball Coaches Poll

Ashland University's softball team has been placed third in the 2016 GLIAC Softball Preseason Coaches' Poll, released on Tuesday (Feb. 9).

The Eagles received 146 voting points. Wayne State was chosen to repeat as conference champions, and received 10 first-place votes and 166 points. Saginaw Valley State (one first-place vote, 147 points) was picked to finish second in the 14-team league.

In 2015, Ashland finished 39-10 overall and 21-5 in the GLIAC. The Eagles were second in the GLIAC regular-season standings, went 2-2 in the GLIAC Tournament and was 1-2 in the Division II Midwest Regional tournament. It was AU's 13th Division II postseason appearance, all since 1996.

Ashland will begin the 2016 season on Feb. 26-28 with five games at the Dome Invitational in Rosemont, Ill.
