Eagles Split Opening Games At Dome Invitational

Ashland University's softball team went 1-1 on Opening Day on Friday (Feb. 26) at the Dome Invitational in Rosemont, Ill.

In an 8-6 loss to William Jewell, the Eagles had leads of 4-0 after two innings, 5-3 after three innings and 5-4 after five innings. Senior shortstop Shelbie Prince was 3-for-3, while junior left fielder Ally Farrah and senior designated player Sarah Alley each were 2-for-4. Senior first baseman Jen Moore drove in two runs.

A 10-2, six-inning win against Lewis saw Alley toss six innings of six-hit ball, not allowing an earned run or a walk while striking out five. Sophomore third baseman Marissa Caraballo and junior second baseman Kalene Freshour each drove in two runs, and Caraballo, Farrah and senior catcher Bri Buckley each had two of AU's 11 hits.

The Eagles will continue play in Illinois on Saturday (Feb. 27) with games against Lindenwood at 9 a.m. and Wisconsin-Parkside at 1:30 p.m.
