AU Softball Wins Two At Dome Invite, Starts 3-1

Ashland University's softball team won a pair of games on Saturday (Feb. 27) at the Dome Invitational in Rosemont, Ill., to start the 2016 season at 3-1.

In a 3-1 win over Lindenwood, senior first baseman Jen Moore hit two home runs and was 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Senior pitcher Brittany Flanigan allowed five hits, a run and two walks in six innings for the win, and freshman Abbie Sgro pitched a scoreless seventh for her first collegiate save. 

A 4-2 victory over Wisconsin-Parkside saw the Eagles break a scoreless tie with a run in the fourth, two in the fifth and one in the sixth. Junior left fielder Ally Farrah and junior second baseman Kalene Freshour each had two hits, while senior pitcher Sarah Alley scattered seven hits, two runs (one earned) and four walks in a complete-game victory.

The Eagles will finish play in Illinois on Sunday (Feb. 28) at 11 a.m. against Missouri S&T.
