Softball Ends Florida Trip With Two Victories

Ashland University's softball team ended its four-game losing streak, as well as the annual Florida trip, with two wins on Saturday (March 12) – 9-6 over Caldwell and 3-2 against Edinboro.

In the win against Caldwell, the Eagles rapped 13 hits, led by senior Shelbie Price, junior Alexis Van Horn and sophomore Sadie Cunningham with two each. Sophomore Marissa Caraballo drove in three runs and hit a home run, and junior Kalene Freshour added two RBIs.

Freshman Abbie Sgro earned the victory with two innings of one-hit relief, and fellow rookie Hannah Stroe picked up the save with two innings of work.

Against Edinboro, Ashland broke a 2-all tie with a run in the top of the sixth on an RBI single by junior right fielder Jenny Raguz. Freshour was 2-for-4. Stroe got the win after going five innings, striking out three and allowing five hits, two runs (none earned) and a walk, while senior Brittany Flanigan earned the save with two scoreless innings.

The Eagles (8-9) return to Ohio to play a doubleheader at Urbana on Tuesday (March 15) at 3 p.m.
