Eagles Split Road Twinbill With Notre Dame College

Playing for the first time in 10 days, Ashland University's softball team split a road doubleheader with Notre Dame College on Tuesday (March 22) – losing 3-1 and winning 7-2.

In Game 1, Notre Dame jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one inning. The Eagles scored in the top of the second, then the Falcons added the game's final run in the bottom of the fourth.

Ashland managed just five hits in the opener. Senior designated player/pitcher Sarah Alley had the Eagles' lone RBI, and pitched four innings of two-hit, one-run relief with five strikeouts and two walks.

The nightcap saw AU score once in the top of the first and second, then put up a four-spot in the third. Ashland added its final run in the seventh.

Senior first baseman Jen Moore was 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs, as the Eagles had nine hits. Senior Brittany Flanigan improved to 4-2 after allowing four hits and two runs and striking out two in five innings, and Alley finished up with two scoreless frames.

The Eagles (9-10) begin a scheduled stretch of eight consecutive home games, and start Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play, on Friday (March 25) at noon at Brookside Park in a doubleheader against Grand Valley State.
