To open up its 2017 campaign, Ashland University softball lost 7-1 to William Jewell and 10-6 to Lewis on Friday (Feb. 24) at the Lewis University Flyers 2017 Dome Invitational in Rosemont, Ill.

Ashland, serving as the home team in Game 1 against the Cardinals, allowed six unanswered runs in the first four innings before finally answering with its only run of the game in the bottom of the fourth. Senior Jenny Raguz earned the first RBI of the season for the Eagles on a single that pushed sophomore Halle Dorko across home plate.

The Eagles ended the game with 10 hits, in comparison to William Jewell's 14.

In Game 2, the Flyers scored seven of their 10 runs in the second inning. The Eagles responded with six runs total in the bottom of the second and third innings, due in large part to Dorko and senior Ally Farrah, who batted sixth and seventh, respectively. Dorko went 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored. Farrah went 4-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

Sophomore Kylie Asmus also contributed, going 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI in the leadoff spot.

Ashland had 13 hits and Lewis had 10, but the Eagles committed four errors in the field. Of the 10 Lewis runs, only three were earned runs for Ashland pitchers Abbie SgroPaige McMenemy and Hannah Stroe.

UP NEXT: The Eagles will remain at Lewis for three more games through Sunday (Feb. 26). On Saturday (Feb. 25), Ashland will face Lindenwood at 10 a.m. and Illinois-Springfield at 4:30 p.m.
