Eagles Split For Third Time During Florida Trip

Ashland University's softball team has split two games in a day on its annual Florida trip for the third time in a row, defeating Cedarville late, 2-1, and losing late to Trevecca Nazarene, 6-5, on Thursday (March 9).

In their first game of the day, the Eagles (5-8) scored twice in the top of the seventh inning on back-to-back solo home runs from senior shortstop Alexis Van Horn and sophomore third baseman Paige Summers – both with Ashland down to its last out of the contest.

Junior pitcher Paige McMenemy twirled a complete-game six-hitter against the Yellow Jackets (5-7), allowing one run and three walks while striking out four.

In the second game Thursday against the Trojans (9-9), the score was tied at 2 going into the top of the fifth, when Ashland put up a three-spot on consecutive RBI singles by freshman catcher Cassie Haight, senior outfielder Jenny Raguz and Van Horn.

Trevecca, however, scored twice in the bottom of the sixth and twice in the seventh to pull out the victory.

Senior outfielder Ally Farrah was 3-for-4 and scored twice, Raguz and Van Horn each went 2-for-4 with an RBI and McMenemy drove in two runs. Sophomore pitcher Hannah Stroe went 6 2/3 innings, allowing eight hits, six runs (two earned) and one walk and striking out three.
