Ashland University softball won a game and lost a game in a doubleheader at non-conference opponent Urbana on Wednesday (April 12).
The Eagles (20-17 overall) surrendered a lead late in Game 1 to lose to the Blue Knights (13-15), 3-2. In Game 2, AU overcame an early 2-0 deficit to win, 3-2.
Ashland plated both of its runs in the fifth inning of the first game.
Sophomore Halle Dorko was responsible for the other Eagle RBI.
In the circle for AU, sophomore Hannah Stroe pitched five innings shutout softball, allowing just three hits. Junior Paige McMenemy came on in relief for two innings of work and let up two in the bottom of the sixth and a walk-off run in the seventh.
McMenemy came back to earn her team-leading 12th victory of the season in Game 2. She struggled early, allowing two runs in the first inning, but she would not allow a run for the rest of the day after that. She held the Blue Knights to three hits in the second game.
Freshman Cassie Haight led the charge at the plate for the Eagles, going 3-for-3 with a double, and RBI and a run scored.
Dorko and sophomore Kyle Asmus also delivered for Ashland with one RBI apiece.
UP NEXT: The Eagles (7-5 GLIAC) return to conference play at home on Friday against Findlay (17-16 overall, 7-5 GLIAC) in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
