Ashland University softball won its sixth straight game on Saturday (April 22) at Hillsdale, but split the doubleheader with the Chargers after losing Game 2.
The Eagles (26-19 overall, 11-7 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) beat Hillsdale (24-19, 12-6), 4-1, in Game 1 and lost, 3-1, in Game 2.
In Game 1, Eagles junior starting pitcher Paige McMenemy upped her team-leading wins total to 15 on the season. She pitched her eighth complete game, striking out five while surrendering five hits.
At the plate, freshman Dayna Denner and sophomore Kylie Asmus each recorded two hits for Ashland. Denner scored half of AU's runs, while senior Ally Farrah and sophomore Kayla Troyer scored the others.
With an RBI double, senior Alexis Van Horn was the lone Eagle to record an extra-base hit in the victory.
The Eagles only plated one run in Game 2 on a single from freshman Cassie Haight that scored Farrah.
Ashland sophomore Hannah Stroe earned the loss in the circle despite allowing just one earned run over six innings of work.
For the second straight game, Denner and Asmus were the only Eagles that had two hits.
UP NEXT: Ashland will play Wayne State in its last road GLIAC doubleheader of the 2017 season on Sunday (April 23). First pitch in Detroit, Mich., is set for 12 p.m.
