The word "retired" doesn't necessarily mean "done with the sport."
Former Ashland University head softball coach Sheilah Gulas, who went into the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Hall of Fame in December after retiring in May, is a member of the NFCA's Board of Directors for 2018. Gulas is the Coach Emeriti Representative on the NFCA Board, and will serve from 2018-20.
Gulas won 929 games in a 31-season head-coaching career between Ashland, Wittenberg and Allegheny. In 21 seasons as an Eagle, she went 723-365-1 (.664), never had a losing campaign, was named Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year four times and went to the NCAA Division II playoffs 12 times.
In her final two years at Ashland, Gulas also was the athletic program's Assistant Athletic Director and Senior Women's Administrator.
