Eagles Split Two On Day 3 Of Florida Action

On the third day of its annual Florida spring trip, Ashland University's softball team split two games, topping Felician by a 5-2 count and losing to Saint Leo, 6-2.

The Eagles (5-5) scored all five of their runs against Felician in the bottom of the sixth inning to erase a 2-0 deficit. Sophomore second baseman Camille Pollutro and sophomore shortstop Bree Gill each went 3-for-3, and junior right fielder Halle Dorko and junior left fielder Katie Mitchell each had two of AU's 12 hits. Senior catcher Sadie Cunningham drove in two runs in the victory.

Junior pitcher Abbie Sgro went the distance on a six-hitter for her first win of 2018, allowing no earned runs and no walks, and striking out three.

In the second game of the day vs. Saint Leo, Pollutro was 3-for-4 with her third and fourth home runs of the season, two runs scored and two RBIs. In the first 10 games of the young campaign, Pollutro is hitting .545 with 13 runs scored, three doubles, four homers and seven RBis.

Junior pitcher Hannah Stroe (1-3) allowed six hits, four runs (three earned) and a walk, and struck out two in four innings.

UP NEXT: After a day off on Wednesday (March 7), back to action with two games in Florida on Thursday (March 8) – vs. Saint Anselm at 4:30 p.m. and vs. Northern State at 7 p.m.
