Eagles Lose Twice To Conclude Florida Swing

In the final two games of its annual Florida spring break trip on Friday (March 9), Ashland University's softball team lost two one-run decisions – 7-6 to Quincy and 8-7 in 11 innings to West Chester.

In the extra-inning affair vs. West Chester, the Eagles rallied with four runs in the bottom of the sixth and one in the seventh to force four innings of free softball. The Golden Rams ultimately won with a run in the top of the 11th.

Senior pitcher Paige McMenemy (4-2) went all 11 innings for Ashland, scattering 10 hits, eight runs (six earned) and three walks, and struck out five. Offensively, junior third baseman Paige Summers and junior left fielder Halle Dorko each hit home runs, junior first baseman Kylie Asmus was 3-for-4 with an RBI, and freshman shortstop Emma Lawson and sophomore second baseman Camille Pollutro each had two of the Eagles' 12 hits.

The defeat to the Hawks to start Friday came after Ashland had a 6-2 lead going into the bottom of the sixth inning. Quincy scored five times in the sixth to take the lead and ultimately win.

Pollutro was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Junior pitcher Hannah Stroe (1-4) allowed 11 hits, seven runs (six earned) and three walks, and struck out a season-high nine in six innings.
