In its first games in nine days, Ashland University's softball team won 5-3 and 2-0 decisions at Findlay on Sunday (March 18).

The Eagles (8-8) took Sunday's opener on the strength of a three-run top of the sixth inning. Ashland's winning runs came on a two-run single off the bat of junior pinch-hitter Katie Manahan.

Freshman right fielder Emma Lawson, junior third baseman Paige Summers, junior first baseman Kylie Asmus, sophomore middle infielder Bree Gill and sophomore catcher Cassie Haight each had two of AU's 12 hits. Summers hit a home run, and Haight crossed the plate twice.

Senior pitcher Paige McMenemy improved to 5-2 after authoring a complete-game seven hitter, allowing three runs (two earned) and a walk and striking out a season-high nine.

The Ashland shutout in the nightcap vs. the Oilers (9-14) was turned in by junior pitcher Hannah Stroe (2-4), who gave up three hits and no walks and whiffed seven. All the runs the Eagles needed came on RBIs from junior left fielder Halle Dorko and freshman left fielder Amanda Wire.

Freshman shortstop Abigail Butler was 2-for-3 in the second-game victory.

UP NEXT: Monday (March 19) at 3 p.m. in a doubleheader at Ohio Dominican.
