Ashland University's softball team split its two games on Saturday (Feb. 23) night at the Lewis Flyers Division II Midwest Region Dome Invitational in Rosemont, Ill., and has started the young 2019 season at 3-1.

The Eagles' Saturday night began with a three-run bottom of the seventh inning to topple Missouri S&T, 3-2. An RBI single by junior second baseman Camille Pollutro got the Eagles on the board, senior third baseman Paige Summers tied the game with a sacrifice fly, then junior designated player Dayna Denner gave the Eagles the W with an RBI single.

Pollutro was 3-for-4, and Denner 2-for-3, as Ashland collected nine hits. Senior pitcher Abbie Sgro kept the Eagles in the game and ended up with the victory in the circle, scattering eight hits and a walk and striking out five in going the distance.

The Eagles' fourth and final game of the trip was a 14-1, five-inning loss to Lindenwood. Junior shortstop Bree Gill was 2-for-2 and scored a run.

Ashland will play in its annual Florida spring trip on March 3-9, scheduled for 12 games total.
